SEPPA, Jul 12: Taking a suo motu cognizance of the precarious condition of the existing bridge as reported by the 3-member technical committee constituted for making its assessment, East Kameng DC P Pravimal Abhishek has directed the PWD Chayangtajo Division for completion of the proposed Pao Soh Bridge near Riga Camp on the Seppa-Chayangtajo road by August 15 next.
Being the lifeline of Chayangtajo Sub-Division and critically connecting the place with the rest of the state, the new Pao Soh Bridge is a part of the construction and improvement project of the Seppa-Chayangtajo road funded by the NEC. The construction of the new bridge has been delayed for many years causing enormous inconvenience to the people of East Kameng district especially during rainy seasons and several meetings have already been conducted with various stakeholders for its early completion.
However, to make sure that the construction process is completed within August 15, the DC has issued an order to the PWD Chayangtajo Division under Section 144 of the CrPC on July 1 last after taking into account the aspects of the prevailing Covid pandemic, seismic vulnerability of the region and the vagaries of ongoing monsoon. The department concerned has also been instructed to ensure timely and adequate mobilization of manpower, material and machinery by the contractor along with submission of weekly reports regarding the progress achieved. To supervise works, the DC has further directed the department to station the concerned JE permanently at the construction site.
As an interim measure, he has also instructed the department to assess the physical and structural strength of the existing bridge and installation of warning signage indicating the threshold load capacity to ensure safety of vehicles.
In case of contravention of the order, strict legal action will be initiated against the defaulters as per the relevant provisions of law, the order stated.
