Aalo/YUPIA, Jun 7: To make the mechanism of medical waste management stronger in the state, the district administrations have started initiating preparatory meetings.
In West Siang the first ever meeting on Medical Waste Management was conducted today at the Conference Hall of DC office at Aalo, participated by medical fraternity, public, women wings and members of District Level Monitoring Committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner.
DC exhorted all to work jointly to dispose off medical wastes and dead animals with infectious diseases as per laid down norms. District Medical Officer, Dr Moli Riba said that the maiden meeting has been convened to know the status of waste management in General Hospital Aalo and sought valuable suggestions from the participants regarding waste disposal aspects.
Medical Superintendent, Dr Linya Lollen gave detailed presentation on medical waste management and waste burning problems faced by the medical department.
Meanwhile, in Yupia the District Level Monitoring Committee Meeting on Bio-Medical Waste (BMW) Management was also held today under the chairmanship of DC In-charge, Tabang Bodung.
District Medical Officer, Papum Pare Dr Subu Tasso Kampu presented an overview of Bio Medical Waste Management in the district and asserted that she will ensure that BMW management systems are effectively implemented and requested all stakeholders to give their full support. She also informed that identification of exact site for BMW disposal as per BMW guidelines is under process and very soon all Government & Private Health Facilities in the district will be registered under State Pollution Control Board and Clinical Establishment Act.
Executive Engineer, PH & E.T.Ukap shared about present status of Solid and Liquid Waste Management( SLWM) under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) (Gramin) implementation in the district. Representative from APSPCB Nich Meji highlighted the role of Pollution Control Board and said that according to rules every HCFs( Health Care Facilities) handling bio-medical waste, irrespective of quantity must mandatorily obtain proper authorisation from State Pollution Control Board while NGO representative and Secretary General, APWWS Kani Nada Maling stressed upon creation of wide awareness about BMW among all stakeholders. She also suggested that an officer must be assigned as overall in-charge and should be given orientation training cum exposure visit to other states where BMW management systems are successfully implemented.
President, IMA Dr. Jego Ori also shared that the committee should focus on identification of healthcare facilities where highest number of BMW is generated with wide BMW circulation to all hospitals, clinics, pharmacies for proper implementation. Earlier, Sr. Programme Officer, Health & Wellness Prince Jacob gave Power Point Presentation on Bio-Medical Waste Management.
During the meeting the committee discussed on key points like wide awareness of BMW to create necessary awareness, taking the bazaar committees, Municipal Officer in charge of respective block and police stations into confidence. DIPRO inputs
