Khonsa, Sep 29: In a bid to contain the alarming spread of leaf folder infestation, a technical awareness meeting-cum-counselling was conducted for the farmers of Khela and other villages in Tirap district by District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Pangnyai Khoisia and departmental staff.
While acknowledging that the scale of infestation in farm fields through pheromone traps has been much higher this time compared to previous years, the DAO underlined the immediate necessity of mass spraying to control the larvae and prevention of large scale destruction. Some medicines were handed over to ADO Deomali for immediate sprayings. “Department of Agriculture is taking all-possible steps to contain the infestation and emergency procurement of sprayers and insecticides have been made,” DAO informed, adding that SRSAC Itanagar is using drones to map the affected area instead of field surveys due to recent floods.
ADC Hq Kretkam Tikhak, who is also the In-charge DC of Tirap district appreciated the DAO and his team for taking steps to contain the pest infestation. DIPRO
