TEZU, Oct 21: With the intention of realising the objective of the ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ vision, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Lohit distributed 15 exotic-breed cows along with calves to three progressive farmers of the district in a small function held at the Government Goat Farm, Mekhaliang today.    
Each beneficiary was handed over three Milch and two adult cows along with calves by SDO Lui Shiba in presence of EAC Peme Keche, VO Sakuntala Gogoi and other members of the CMWRS.
Five months of composite feed as well as jars, buckets, ropes and mugs were also given. “We have distributed the cows of exotic breeds which give huge quantities of milk ranging from 10-12 litres daily. Holstein Freisen and Jersey cross breed cows brought from Kapurthala, Punjab under the Chief Minister’s White Revolution scheme have been given. The state government has taken initiatives to boost the dairy sector for attaining self-reliance,” DVO Dr N Taipodia said. The three progressive farmers namely Sohai Kri, Hemanta Mein and Bratalum Tamai were shortlisted under the scheme. 

When asked about the marketing facilities by the beneficiaries, the DVO informed that the upcoming government milk plant at Namsai and a private plant at Tezu will cater to this aspect.
Meanwhile, department sources informed that an integrated, holistic and scientific approach has been adopted to improve the district’s dairy sector with follow-up measures and guidance to the farmers.
