PASIGHAT, Sep 6: Following series of written complaints lodged by All Bogong Student Union, ABSU (E) and one Asteem Muang for removal of excess speed breakers constructed on NH-13 from Ruksin to Mebo, finally the district administration has started removing the speed breakers on NH-13 today.
Earlier, District Administration had convened a coordination meeting on July 23 at DC’s Conference Hall after receiving written complaints and constituted a Board for finding the genuineness of excess speed breakers on the NH-13.
The meeting was attended by SP Prashant Gautam, Col Manish Dass (GREF), executive magistrates, ADCs, engineers of PWD and Highways, DTO (MV), DFO (T), executive members of community based organisations and village secretaries of Sille, Oyan, Rani and Berung.
Tatak indicated that 33 speed-breakers in between Ruksin and Raneghat were found to be unauthorized and hinder smooth movement of traffic on the high-speed corridor. “Villagers are constructing speed breakers at their own choice to check vehicular speed and no consistent design had been followed in their construction. It is undesirable and can be sources of accidents to the fast-moving traffic” opined the DC.
Meanwhile, out of 33-speed Breakers constructed on NH-13 only nine speed breakers could be removed by the administration. According to Highway Assistant Engineer Jacob Siram, after public resistance at Rani village, removing of speed breakers could not be continued, and in Sille village also public resisted but after the interference of ADC Ruksin, the drive continued, Siram added.
Armed with an excavator, the Administration removed at least nine speed Breakers in NH- 13 from Ruksin to Mebo.
