ITANAGAR, May 24:Families which were affected in a series of thunderstorm which lashed the capital complex recently were provided relief assistance by the district administration today.

Local MLA Techi Kaso today distributed cheques to the victims of the thunderstorm that had occurred in the Capital Complex on March 29, April 25 and May 11, in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Complex Prince Dhawan in the Conference Hall of the DC Office.

While sympathising with the victims, Kaso hoped that the relief amount would be utilised properly for the purpose for which it has been provided. He further emphasised on the importance of disaster preparedness in view of the approaching monsoon and appealed the public to refrain from residing in low lying areas and along the riverside.

He further requested the DA to conduct awareness regarding disaster management and publish do’s and don’ts on various types of disasters through the local dailies on regular basis.

The DC informed about the working of the EOCs (Emergency Operating Centre) and also informed about the 24 hrs toll free helpline number ‘1077’ issued by the DDMA for any assistance.

As disasters don’t come knocking, the DC has appealed residents to be prepared and move to safer locations.

Earlier, the DDMO Moromi Dodum Sonam in her address also highlighted that as per the DM Act 2005, those who reside in vulnerable areas are not entitled for assistance of any kind in case of any disaster.
