PASIGHAT, Jul 16: Acting on the report of the Dett. Commander, Advance Landing Ground, Pasighat which has conveyed fear regarding the threat posed by the tall trees along the runway to the landing aircrafts, East Siang District Administration has issued a circular to all the land owners staying near the ALG to carry out cutting/pruning of trees and bamboos.
The circular has mentioned that a number of tall trees at the approach area along the runway are posing a direct threat to the safety of the aircrafts’ landing which is also a serious safety hazard for the civil populace living in the vicinity of the Pasighat Airport/ALG.
When contacted, the management of the airport confirmed the real-time threat to the aircrafts, both civil aviation and Indian Air Force as the high-rising trees and bamboos around the approach of the airport can be a potential cause for accidents. “The disturbing trees and bamboos need to be cut down or pruned for the safety of the aircrafts and passengers,” an official from the ALG Pasighat said.
At present the ALG is being used by both the Indian Air Force and civil aviation. While the civil aviation segment caters to domestic flight connectivity with the rest of the country, the IAF operates fighter jets like Sukhoi-MKI for air surveillance over the Indo-China border.
The ALG has separate terminals for civil and defence purposes.
