Roing, Oct 28: A felicitation programme to honour the winners of the online ‘women role model’ and ‘essay writing’ competitions held on the occasion of International Girl Child day on October 11 last was held today at the DC’s Conference Hall, Roing.
The Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom(IAS) gave away certificates and cash awards to winners Achoya Niwi Muili, Matu Bordoloi and Moina Megu Lego for the Women role model competition. Winners Salma Begum, Illa Menjo and Lokmi Pertin in Junior category and Sido Ripuk, Rahu Menjo and Bayyapu Shreyank in Senior category for the online essay competition on the topic ‘Is Gandhi still relevant?’ too were awarded during the occasion.
DC Namchoom appreciated the active participation of all in the online competitions and said that the competitions had brought to the fore many stories of everyday women inspiring others and reminded us of the relevance of Gandhian principles even today.
Through the BBBP programme, the District Administration and WCD department has focused on women’s education, her empowerment and economic independence, stated the DC. She also advised all to create awareness on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and highlighted the various women related issues prevailing in  society. DIPRO
