ITANAGAR,  Jan 12:  A meeting on the newly launched Padhna Likhna Abhiyan (PLA) was convened by Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Region Komkar Dulom here at his office chamber today participated by the Executive Committee members of the District Literacy Mission Authority (DLMA).
Sr. Lecturer DIET, Naharlagun RK Sah while presenting a PPT informed the PLA is a new flagship literacy scheme of the government for achieving the goal of total literacy by 2030. He further informed that the principal target of the programme is to impart functional literacy and numeracy to non-literate and non-numerate adults in both rural and urban areas across the country in the age group of 15 years and above. Around 1680 non-literates would be identified through a survey within the ICR who would then be imparted instructor-based teaching in reading, writing and numeracy, he informed.
Chairperson, Oju Welfare Association (OWA) Ratan Anya while stating their readiness in the effort informed that OWA can begin with 60-70 people at their auditorium initially. OWA volunteers will also identify and visit sectors/colonies to impart teaching with the help of interns, she said, adding that vegetable vendors at the Naharlagun daily market would also be encouraged to undergo learning. Secretary General, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society Kani Nada Maling said its members will start identifying the non-literates in each sector of the ICR who will then be imparted teaching at some convenient location in the respective sectors.
The DC while lauding the OWA and APWWS hoped with their cooperation, the target of achieving the goal of total literacy by 2030 would see the light of the day. He assured full cooperation from the District Administration to ensure that PLA is successfully implemented.
He further directed Assistant Nodal Officer Tori Gadi to complete the preliminary exercise at the earliest for commencing the survey. DIPRO
