ITANAGAR, Jul 17: The West Siang District Students’ Union on Friday expressed disappointment over an order issued by the DC under which sponsoring of lodging and thrice-a-day fooding for the medical workers as well as local NGOs deployed at the entry check gates in the district will be discontinued henceforth.
The union said that the order dated July 14 which has cited "exhaustion of SDRF funds" as the reason for the discontinuation is a shock for the frontline workers which will also have a demoralising impact. Reasoning that fooding and lodging are a must for the healthcare workers fighting Covid-19, the union also raised the alarm that going back to homes after daily duties is dangerous for their families as well as local people. Stating that West Siang is one of the most densely populated districts in the state, the union pointed out that the matter is serious and the state government should give a second thought to it. The union also informed that although steps have been taken for distribution of TrueNat machines in the district after they raised demand for the same, materials supplied such as PPE, gloves, masks are of low quality.
The union added that they will launch democratic protest movement if the state government fails to reconsider the decision.
