KHONSA, Jul 20: A team of the District Administration today conducted surprise visits at various locations here in the township for checking the prices charged by the meat and fish vendors.
The team comprised Town Magistrate Ripi Doni, Executive Magistrate Lim Modi and other officials. During inspection the Town Magistrate found that some butchers were selling broiler chicken at prices (Rs 190/kg) which is higher than government approved rates. When asked for the reason, the sellers informed that the wholesaler from whom they purchase is charging Rs 180/kg and the transactions have been going on without challans. Noting the discrepancy, Executive Magistrate Lim Modi asked the President, Khonsa Bazaar Welfare Committee to call all the wholesalers in a coordination meeting at DC’s office scheduled on July 21. Link Officer Executive Magistrate Nekong Perme and SDFCSO Bompi Kadu warned the butchers not to sell meat and fish beyond the government approved rates and display the price list issued by DFCSO in their shops. The SDFCSO distributed the latest price list of meat and fish items to all such vendors. Representative from IPR department Gawang Sumpa asked the vendors get vaccinated from the nearest health centre.

Meanwhile, through an order issued on July 19 by the Town Magistrate, possession of trade license to run butcher shops has been made mandatory and only at the specific locations within Khonsa township. License and product will be ceased and penalties ranging from Rs 5000 to Rs 10000 will be imposed in case of violation, the order read.
Police have been directed to carry out surprise visits fortnightly or as and when required in and around the township for the same. DIPRO
