ITANAGAR, Jan 7: Snehankar Chakroboty, a cyclist who has been riding from Biswanath Chariali to Itanagar with an objective to create awareness on social and financial security of journalists, reached the capital city today.
Speaking to reporters at the press club here, Chakroboty said, he along with a few enthusiast riders working on creating awareness on climate change started the ride from Biswanath Chariali, Assam on January 6, morning and reached Banderdewa in the evening.
He said the prime objective behind his ride is to create awareness on social and financial security of journalists in the country.
“There are very few media organisations in the country that follow the Supreme Court standing order to implement Majithia wage board due to which journalists have to make do with meager salary and lack financial security,” he said. He said the employers should have empathy as well as ensure social, financial security of journalists working in their organisation.
Chakroboty has completed ride from Guwahati- Biswanath Chariali (300km) 2019, Biswanath Chariali- Bhalukpong (170km) 2020, Biswanath Chariali- Sadiya via Bogibeel Bridge covering 1000km of entire upper Assam in the year 2020 and Siliguri-Sikkim (226km) in 2022 to create awareness on rights of journalists.
