AALO, Mar 31: The 10-day long Mopin festival organised by Central Mopin Celebration Committee Aalo got off to a flying start with the inauguration of cultural extravaganza by Deputy Commissioner, West Siang, Gamli Padu as chief guest amid cheer and applause at Gumin Kiin on Thursday

Extending festival greetings, Padu said that the festival represents hallmark of our culture while stating that culture gives us a distinct identity. ‘All festivals are alike. We have orally transmitted versions of myths, mythologies, folklores and folktales which are associated with the growth and development of tribal societies handed down from generation to generation in the absence of written script. This age old culture needs proper documentation and preservation for future generations,’ he stressed.

The DC also underscored the need for collective effort, uniform thought pattern and oneness among all strata of clans among the Galo community to make this festival more vibrant. It is rare platform and occasion to promote mutual understanding, universal brotherhood and spreading goodwill messages to different clans of the Galo and various other communities.

Gijum Tali, DIPRO attended the function as the guest of honour. Kenli Ete, Cultural Secretary CMCC and Degam Ete, President CMPCS spoke at length on cultural event, origin, development and effort made to preserve this age old culture. The cultural competition on the day one of the competition focussed on folk dance and Anne Yunam.
