Itanagar, May 21: Chief Secretary of the state Satya Gopal conducted a meeting today here at the conference hall of Civil Secretariat and took stock of the implementation status of Solid Waste Management Rules etc. in state.
The review meeting was a part of the observance of the recent National Green Tribunal order to the State Level Committee under Chief Secretary for implementation of various rules related to solid & biomedical wastes and plastic waste management in the state. The Principal Secretary Environment and Forest, PCCF and Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, Secretary Urban Development, Secretary Rural Development, Secretary Health Member Secretary Pollution Control Board attended the meeting along with senior officers from Urban Development, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Environment & Forest departments.
The CS asked the officials to develop three villages per district along with three towns and three cities as models for solid waste, plastic waste and biomedical waste management as per NGT order. He also instructed the department to impose penalty on defaulters.
While taking note of the various difficulties faced by the implementing agencies, CS also asked the departments to prepare state specific action plans with low cost solutions for municipal solid waste problem in consultation with APSPCB.CS Press Release
