ITANAGAR, Aug 22: Consumer Rights Organization-Arunachal Pradesh (CRO-AP) organized a ‘Consumer Mitra Training Programme’ to impart knowledge on consumer rights & responsibilities, Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and consumer grievances for the district level CRO workers here at Sidhartha Hall on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, National Working President of CRO, Naveen Sharma informed that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recognized the CRO and has also included it as a permanent member in FSSAI committee. He said that such training on consumer related issues for the consumers and the workers should be organized by the concerned department on regular basis. “Until and unless people and the workers of CRO are not aware of their responsibilities and about CPA, working on ground is impossible,” he added. Sharma said that the organization is working in 25 states for consumer welfare and urged CRO workers in district level to gather detailed information from the concerned department. The issue of consumer protection is vast one and one cannot cover all at a time and therefore team work is essential, he said.
Capital Complex ADC Talom Dupok said that capital being a vast area, all consumer related issues can’t be dealt at a time and thus, awareness and training programmes of this kind will help consumers to gain more knowledge about their rights.“If consumers know their rights, it will also ease the administration and the concerned department work load,” he opined. President CRO-AP Achu Bagang said that organizational working for providing knowledge and awareness on consumer issues is very less in the Northeast. In this regard, he requested the District CRO to spearhead various programmes on consumer rights from district to village level.
The training programme was attended by Director of Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS), District Medical Officer (DMO) Mundip Perme, Food Safety Officer, Assistant Drug Controller Gebom Tayeng, Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) Chairman Jalley Sonam and other department heads.
