NAMSAI, Jul 4: In a tragic incident, one COVID warrior lost his life and another severely injured in an accident which occurred at Namsai this morning.
The incident occurred at Tengapani area some 15 Kilometers from Namsai Headquarters of Namsai district when the ambulance of Zonal General Hospital Tezu they were driving rammed into a culvert after losing control. Both driver and co-driver were on COVID duty and were returning from Dibrughar after delivering COVID-Samples at designated laboratory ICMR Dibrugarh in Assam.
"The victim Sangpui Tayo (31) had been a regular driver of the new COVID Dedicated Ambulance pressed into services for COVID duty since the beginning. After Postmortem his body was handed over to relatives for last rites. He is survived by a 3 year old son, wife, brother and mother, " informed Dr S Towang District Surveillance Officer.
However, Sonu Shah (32) a cook in the Zonal Hospital Tezu who accompanied the victim received serious injuries and has been referred to a private nursing home in Dibrugarh. The DMO, DSO, Medical Superintendent, Doctors and other medical staffers paid heartfelt condolence at the premature death of the driver.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of a COVID 19 Warrior in a tragic road accident. Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, Khandu said that the State and it’s people are with the bereaved family during this trying time.
While assuring all possible support from the Government, Khandu directed Deputy Commissioner Lohit to immediately process for granting ex-gratia relief to the bereaved family members. With CMO inputs
