Aalo, Jul 23: In the wake of a sudden spike of Covid-19 positive cases within a span of few days here in the township, West Siang DC Moki Loyi has appealed to the people not to circulate unfounded and fake news on social media platforms which might create mass panic.
Taking note of the increasing trend of tobacco consumption among the district’s people including minors/under-aged, the DC has also banned selling and import of all tobacco products within the jurisdiction of West Siang district with immediate effect by invoking 133 CrPC, r/w  section 6 (a) of COTPA Act 2003. Selling of gutka, pan masala, vimal, cigarette and other tobacco products to persons below 18 years of age has been declared illegal and all shopkeepers have been cautioned to comply with the order in letter and spirit.
As per updated figures, 10 new cases have been detected from quarantine centres comprising 5 from ITBP, 4 from GREF and one civilian on Wednesday, taking the overall tally to 14 with two recoveries earlier. All the new patients have been taken to the Covid Care Centre.
The DC has also extended the closing time for shops from 5 pm to 6 pm in the evening on request by shopkeepers. This would enable the on-duty government officials to procure essential commodities as most of them hardly find time after office hours. DIPRO
