ITANAGAR, Jul 15: The COVID-19 situation is under control and the state is at present in stage 2, said the Indian Medical Association- Arunachal Pradesh (IMA-AP) urging the people not to panic as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state.
Vice president of IMA-AP, Dr. Kesang Wangdi Thongdok while highlighting the mode of virus transmission said that the state is at stage 2 which is local transmission, where contact tracing is being easily carried out to trace the source of infection.
"Level of panic among the people is so high that they feel the situation is totally out of control. This is not the case; people should learn to live along with the pandemic, following all precautions till there is a vaccine for it."
Dr. Kesang requested the people not to propagate half truth and knowledge through various mediums of communications.
Addressing the media at RKM hospital here on Wednesday, President IMA-AP, Dr. Lobsang Tsetim urged the people to maintain all the SOPs provided by the government strictly to contain the virus.
"There is no vaccine or treatment as of now so we all have to adhere to the SOPs," he said.
Dr. Lobsang further  requested the people infected with the virus to provide accurate information about their primary and secondary contacts and travel history, so that the health workers can contain further spread of the virus.  "People should be Responsible, Remind, Reprimand, and Respectful so as to contain the spread of the virus. The good news is that most of the people suffering from COVID-19 are asymptomatic."

He also appealed people to avoid visiting hospitals for minor problems as there are chances that one can be infected.
"Hospitals are high risk zones and visit only when it's an emergency."
While expressing concern on discrimination and stigmatization against health workers, IMA chief also appealed everyone to encourage health workers instead of demoralizing them in such situation.
Reacting to the protest by residents of Chimpu nearby the MLA apartments which has been proposed as a makeshift COVID-19 hospital, the association requested the people to support the noble cause of the state government.
“The residents should know that no one is immune to the virus. The proposed makeshift COVID-19 hospital will serve our own people,” he said, adding that the hospital will never be a source of infection in the locality as the treatment will be done in a confined area.
He said that the mortality rate is high among the elderly people, children and co- morbid patients. Therefore, if we enter into community transmission of the virus, there will be high death cases, he added.
On the sidelines, the association said that the doctors and health workers don’t need special treatment by the state government if they are found Covid positive. Rather, the association requested the state government to identify a separate Covid Care Centre (CCC).
The association also requested the state government to recruit new lab technicians and nurses to overcome the shortage in various hospitals.
