ITANAGAR, Mar 19: An awareness session on Corona Virus Disease (COVID 19) was conducted here at the Governor’s Secretariat for the employees of Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
Senior Medical Officer, Raj Bhavan Dispensary cum State Trainer on Covid-19 awareness campaign Dr Jennifer Tayeng briefed the employees about the epidemiology of the virus and the preventive measures to be followed through personal hygiene and etiquette. Dr. Tayeng underscored that to contain the spread of coronavirus, avoiding closed crowded spaces, maintaining distance of 1 metre, refraining from touching own face, nose and mouth, avoiding physical contact like shaking hand, frequently hand washing and maintaining respiratory etiquettes must be followed strictly.
Proper hand washing being a major component of precautionary measures, she advised the staff to follow a simple seven-step technique which comprised- (i) wetting the hands and application of enough soap (coin size) (ii) rubbing both palms together (iii) rubbing the back of each hand (iv) rubbing both hands while interlocking the fingers (v) rubbing the back of all fingers & their tips (vi) rubbing the thumbs and ends of the wrists and (vii) washing both hands properly with water. For an easy remembering of these steps she suggested a mnemonic ‘SUMAN K’ which stands for ‘Seedha Ulta Mutthi Anghuta Nakhun Kalai’ which is applicable for both hand washing with soap & water and with any 70% alcohol-based sanitizer.
Dr. Tayeng cautioned the staff against bulk purchasing of masks and hand sanitizers, which, she said deprives other people of the vital items, thereby inviting faster spread of the disease. You are not safe till others near you are safe, she said and asked the staff to home quarantine any relative coming from Covid 19 infected places having symptoms of any respiratory infections like cough for at least 14 days before allowing them to move around. She further emphasized on seeking medical care immediately, in case there are common symptoms such as fever, fatigue, dry cough and breathing difficulty.
Issuing warning against rumour-mongers, the Senior Medical Officer said actions may be initiated by the administration against them by invoking the powers conferred under section 2 of the Epidemic Disease Act 1897. PRO Raj Bhavan
