KHONSA, Jan 31: The District and Sessions Court Judge, Khonsa, has convicted and sentenced one NSCN-K cadre, one Tailai Wangsu to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for extortion and collection of house tax from villagers under Longding Pumao area and for possessing prohibited arms and explosives.
During the wee hours of 13 September 2019, Alpha troupe of 19th Sikh Regiment, basing upon specific input had conducted operation at Longkhaw village near Pongchau circle of Longding District. During the time of operation after a brief gunfight, the miscreant tried to flee away towards Nagaland. The troupe managed to apprehend SS Lieutenant of NSCN-K namely Tailai Wangsu and recovered weapons including hand grenades and detonators. Rest of the miscreants managed to flee taking advantage of darkness and jungle cover.
The troupe had handed over the accused and seized materials at Longding PS and filed FIR. On completion of the investigation, Investigation Officer, Jawpha Wangsa had laid charge sheet against the accused. The District Magistrate, Longding, has provided prosecution sanction under Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act. However, the state government failed to accord sanction for prosecuting the accused under UA(P) Act even though the IO has made application. During investigation of the case, the arms and ammunitions were examined through FSL, Guwahati, and live grenades and detonators were neutralized.
Today, after completion of trial, the District and Sessions Judge, Khonsa, Mr. Hirendra Kashyap convicted Wangsu for the offence of extortion and collection of house tax from villagers and sentenced him to undergo ten years rigorous imprisonment and payment of fine.
