ITANAGAR, Oct 20: A notorious couple has been arrested for their alleged involvement in a series of daylight thefts in the capital, Naharlagun police said on Sunday.
As per police statement, the modus operandi of the couple was that they would look for opened doors and check if the occupants were present or not. And if the dwelling was found free of occupants, they would then execute their plans and in case occupants were available inside their apartment, they would pretend as if they were in search for rental rooms. The duo would then escape with whatever they could gather viz. clothing items, ornaments, electronics items, etc. Both of them confessed of taking drugs and stealing things to finance their drug purchases.
Earlier, a case vide NLG PS No. 173/19 U/S 380/34 IPC was also registered when the couple managed to flee away with a huge quantity of traditional beads from D Sector.
With these series of theft cases being reported, SP Capital constituted a team headed by SDPO NLG Rike Kamsi and visited the places of occurrence and thoroughly checked all CCTV footages. Accordingly, still pictures from the footages were circulated to the sources. On the basis of available leads on October 18, when the suspects were spotted roaming, the investigating team rushed to the location and nabbed them. Following interrogation, the duo confessed their crime and led them to their hideouts from where a large number of stolen items such as traditional beads, clothes, two laptops, two mobile phones etc were recovered and further investigation is on to recover other stolen items.
Meanwhile, citizens of the Capital Complex have been requested by police to install CCTV cameras in their residential premises and remain extra vigilant to ensure that such thefts do not recur.
