NEW DELHI, Nov 23: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) participated in the two-day 50th Conference of Governors which was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind here at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
The inaugural session was attended by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers of Home, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Law & Justice, Human Resource Development, Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti along with Governors and Lt. Governors of the states and UTs. Vice-Chairman and CEO of NITI Aayog and other senior officials from various Ministries are also participating in the conference. Important thematic issues including tribal aspirations, reforms in agriculture, Jal Jeevan Mission, New Education Policy for higher education and better governance for ease of living will be discussed during the conference.
Participating in discussion about the higher education part of ‘New Education Policy, Governor suggested that the country’s education system should focus on sustainable livelihoods, economic development and facilitate socio-cultural well-being of the people. Faculty and students of higher educational institutions should also engage with local communities to learn the real-world problems and function in collaborative, inclusive and cross-disciplinary ways, he opined. Aspirations of the youths, especially from hills and distant areas, rural and sub-urban areas demand revamping and re-energizing of current higher education system, he said, adding that commitment and teaching ability should also essentially form parts of the sacred duties of teachers. While sharing his deep concern about employability of graduating students, Governor suggested for having compulsory career guidance cum central placement cells with full-time senior professors along with entrepreneurship development cells linking academics with industry. He further advocated for special fund allocation for innovation, promotion, execution and integration of ‘Start Up Policy’ in higher educational institutions and stressed on the need for having CCTV cameras in classrooms and biometrics to ensure accountability and discipline. 
Multi-storeyed buildings to optimize land use, strict regulatory check on mushrooming of commercialised private universities were the other recommendations made by the Governor during his deliberations. PRO Raj Bhavan
