TEZU, Apr 11: For Arunachal Pradesh which is now engaged in the battle to contain Covid-19 pandemic tooth and nail with limited medical resources, the relentless devotion of the frontline warriors handling the state’s first positive patient here at Zonal Hospital Tezu will act as an inspiration.
By now, these warriors, which is an army of 12 comprising 2 doctors, 4 nurses, 2 sanitary assistants and 4 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) have completed the first ten-day tenure of caregiving on shift basis.
“It was like a war for us with the motto ‘do or die’ and it was really scary for the family, friends and relatives when they heard that I have been deployed to attend to the Covid-19 positive patient. They were initially reluctant but I believed the call of duty was paramount,” District Tuberculosis Officer Dr UK Nath, who led the team said. His partners Dr S Ansari was equally supportive and bold, so were the nurses, MTS, sanitary assistants, Dr Nath added.
“Earlier we feared getting infected but the doctors assured that if safety kits are properly worn and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed, there is nothing to fear,” one of the nurses said.
The entire team comprising DMO Dr S Chai Pul, Medical Superintendent Dr C Tayang, District Surveillance Officer Dr S Towang extended their holistic support.
“Amid much hue and cry, we admitted the patient but with proactive team spirit we were able to handle the situation and the patient’s receding virus load heightened our morale,” Dr Towang stated.
According to sources, the team will be undergoing another 14-day home quarantine here at the Indira Gandhi Government College and will be released only after proper tests.
The second group of corona warriors will also be a 12-member squad headed by SMO Dr JS Bhowmik and MO Dr A Kri. DMO divulged that the patient is asymptomatic and doing well and the next test is on April 14.
