PASIGHAT, Nov 20: With the aim of diffusing tension in the Arunachal-Assam border areas of Lower Siang and East Siang districts, a coordination meeting was held on Friday here at the Siang Hall of DC’s office.
The meeting was convened after direction from the Commissioner Home, GoAP and attended by East Siang DC Dr. Kinny Singh, SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Dhemaji (Assam) DC Narsing Pawar, SP Dhemaji (Assam) Dr. Dhananjay Ghanwat, DCs and SPs of Lower Siang, Shi-Yomi, Upper Siang, West Siang, Upper Subansiri and Lepa Rada districts. While unanimously condemning the murder of Dhurba Pathak who was shot dead at Tuting in Upper Siang district recently, the house appreciated the swift action taken by the administration and police of Upper Siang district and arrest of the accused by Yingkiong police.
The DC and SP of Dhemaji informed that the highway at Sili has been cleared and Arunachal-bound vehicles are now passing smoothly. Various important issues pertaining to mobility of transportation, safety and security of human lives, sensitization of citizens, involvement of NGOs and CBOs from both states etc. were discussed by the officials. It was decided that inter-state coordination meetings will be convened on a regular basis to control every dispute so that unwanted elements can’t take advantage and mislead people.
To continue the spirit of brotherhood between the two states, the officials agreed to introduce safe stoppage points for drivers and helpers, issue helpline numbers for prompt and protective response and appoint nodal officers. DIPRO
