ITANAGAR, Jul 18: The All Arunachal Contractors’ Welfare Association (AACWA) has appealed to the state government to allow the hardware shops in the Capital Region to remain open and give permission for transportation of construction materials up to 9 am in the morning thrice a week, in case the ICR lockdown is extended beyond July 20.
Through a press release issued on Saturday, AACWA reasoned that the relaxation is necessary as the contractors in the ICR and other districts who purchase cements and steel from the Capital hardware shops are facing difficulties in carrying out construction activities. The contractors who are implementing the government projects have to halt work due to shortage of construction materials like cement, TMT rod, sand, stone chip etc.
The association has also expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that despite the recent announcement by the state government for clearance of pending contractors' bills amounting to Rs. 400 crores, till date not a single paisa has been released. It has once more appealed to the state to expedite the process by engaging the finance and planning wings.
AACWA has also urged the state government to ensure adequate PPE kits, masks, medicines, equipment, better fooding and accommodation facilities for all Covid warriors and has highlighted the government's inability to complete the 35-bed Covid Hospital at Kola Camp,  Doimukh. AACWA
