ITANAGAR, May 7: The All Arunachal Contractors’ Welfare Association (AAPCWA) has once again demanded immediate and full release of their outstanding payments pending with the government before arrival of the monsoon season.
Meanwhile, the association has appreciated the government order dated May 7 which will now facilitate clearing of unpaid cheques not exceeding Rs 10 lakhs issued by the Works and Forest departments before March 28. It may be recalled that the March 28 order had put a ban on clearance of cheques against all government transactions, irrespective of their amounts.
Addressing a press conference here today, AAPCWA President Nabam Akin Hina said that the government is doing injustice to them by not releasing the outstanding payments of completed projects. However, he lauded the May 7 order saying that it will help many small contractors who executed the works on a sub-contracting basis.
Further, demanding immediate withdrawal of the March 28 order, Hina lamented that many contractors who borrowed loans from banks and other financial institutions by mortgaging private properties etc are facing untold problems due to non-clearance of their bills.
He also informed that the association had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Secretary Finance on April 28, but no concrete action has been initiated to address their grievances so far.
