Khonsa, Dec 5: Ahead of the upcoming PR elections in Tirap district, a coordination meeting involving the SP/ROs/AROs/political parties/contesting ZPM/GPM candidates was convened today by the District Election Observer (PR) Sentum Yomcha.
While urging the ROs/AROs/ Presiding Officers/Polling Officers and polling teams to ensure all COVID SOPs are strictly maintained during the polling day, the Election Observer asserted that strict monitoring of the overall election proceedings will be maintained for ensuring free and fair polls in the district. DEO-cum-DC Taro Mize reminded that both the candidates and their supporters will have to be cautious regarding behaviour, activity and responsibilities to make the elections successful in the district and sought cooperation from all stakeholders in this regard. He also made an appeal to all the contesting candidates for ZP/GP seats to deposit their arms along with licenses at the nearby police stations at an early date.
SP Kardak Riba urged the contesting candidates and their supporters to make the elections free and fair, informing along with that construction of any kind of ‘No Entry Gate’ in any part of the district will be prohibited during election proceedings. Earlier, he distributed the Helpline and Control Room numbers to the contesting candidates and proposers to ensure that there is no pre-poll violence in the district.
Possession of lethal weapons like sharp knives, dao, spears etc. will not be allowed during election proceedings, he added. DIPRO
