ITANAGAR, Sep 24: The ongoing training of the newly recruited APP constables at Police Training Centre, Banderdewa has been suspended after at least 84 such trainees (all male) were detected as COVID-19 positive.
Confirming the news, PRO APP cum SP (SIT) Dr. Hemant Tiwari informed that all the positive recruits have been shifted to Covid Care Centre, Lekhi. All of them are from D, E & F Company and were living in separate barracks. After lockdown, all the 480 recruits were directed to resume their training from September 10-13 preceded by Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at their concerned districts and were allowed to join training only after being tested negative, the PRO informed. He further added that from September
14 -20 they were kept in isolation (quarantine) in their respective barracks. But when the training started from September 21, 14 cadets of F -Company reported symptoms of cough and cold and on the very next day they were subjected to fresh tests. Out of them, 8 tested positive and were sent immediately to the Lekhi CCC and after contact tracing during the following three days, other cadets also were detected positive.
Training for the 480 constables started in mid-January but had to be suspended due to outbreak of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. During lockdowns, these recruits were also deputed in their concerned districts for COVID duties.
