ITANAGAR, Sep 23: Day after the state BJP extended its support to the Farm Bills, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee today termed the Bills as draconian law and extended its solidarity to the protesting farmers.
Addressing the press briefing today, APCC President cum former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said "The Congress party will stand with the farmers of the country who are opposing the new Farm bills passed in parliament recently. Any bill before tabling in parliament should be shared to the states for their suggestions and advice but the BJP government is so adamant that they directly tabled the bill and passed it without any debates in parliament."
He further added, some laws may be beneficial for particular states but may not be for others, so bringing such Bill without any consultation with the concerned states and stakeholders is draconian and could not be in the welfare of the farmers.
Tuki further said that the voice of the farmers should be heard by the BJP government and demands of the farmers like amendments in   Minimum Support Price (MSP) and APMC (mandis) should be incorporated into the bills.  "Only assuring such provisions verbally won’t ensure the protection of farmers interest unless it is incorporated into the bills itself," asserted President APCC.
While responding to query on BJP’s allegation on the opposition for misguiding the farmers, Tuki said "There are thousands of farmers who took to the streets against the Bill, so there is no question of misguiding the farmers  they know their rights are being curtailed  in the Bill, so they are protesting."
Moreover, instead of encouraging the farmers of the country, BJP is bringing Corporates and other big companies in the agri & allied sector without proper laid down norms  who may exploit the farmers in the future, claimed Tuki. Meanwhile, the APCC president announced that in support of the farmers,  Congress party will organize “Speak Up for Farmers” online campaign across the country from September 26, mass signature campaign from October 2 to 31, and observing October 2 as the Kisan Majdoor Bachao Diwas.

The two new agricultural bills that were passed recently in both houses of parliament is the Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020.
