ITANAGAR, July 25:     Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein today opined that the state needs a concrete policy for maintenance of Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana roads. He said this in a meeting with the Chief Engineers of Rural Work Department in his office today.

Mein said that many PMGSY roads were constructed across the state as per the central guidelines but over the years these roads have become deplorable due to non-maintenance coupled with plying of heavy vehicles in some places which are actually rural link roads not made for plying of heavy vehicles. He asked the RWD to come up with a concrete maintenance policy for the purpose of creating a road maintenance fund for PMGSY roads. However, he asked them to strictly implement the policy to keep the roads in good condition. He also asked the department to put up a proposal to the government for additional resource mobilization for maintenance of the roads that get damaged due to landslides and other natural calamities.

KC Dhimole, Technical Advisor to the Rural Work Department presented a proposal of Rural Work Maintenance Policy to the Deputy Chief Minister to which he asked them to revise the Policy with certain modifications and put up for approval by the next Cabinet.

Among others, Ashish Kundra, Development Commissioner & Finance, Dr Joram Beda, Secretary Planning and Chief Engineers (RWD), T Welly and K Tabiyo also attended the meeting.
