TEZU: Mar 12: As part of the overhauling plan to improve the efficiency of the state’s power grid system, a new transmission line connecting Rupai in Tinsukia with Chapakhowa in Assam has been completed.
“The transmission line will be the second injection point from the Northeast Region Grid to Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project (RHEP) in Lower Subansiri district. It will supply power to Upper Subansiri, West Siang, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Namsai districts,” Superintendent Engineer (Power) Gingko Linggi informed, adding that in the next phase the grid will connect Roing in Lower Dibang Valley. Giving the details, the SE said that the second grid was necessary given the fact there are repeated trips in the 132 KV Aalo-Pasighat line during monsoon. The alternative 132 KV line from Rupai will now provide uninterrupted power supply in these districts, he said. “Once fully completed the transmission lines will improve the overall reliability of the grid system in the state,” the SE hoped.
It can be recalled that in its 20th regional meeting in September 2019 the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) approved the132 KV double circuit transmission line. DCM Chowna Mein who attended the meeting appealed to the NERPC and Powergrid to expedite the construction process.
