Parong, Sep 19: A community consultation was convened today in Parong village under the chairmanship of Tayi Taggu, Deputy Commissioner, Siang, to deliberate on the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) survey and the proposed Upper Siang Multipurpose Storage Project (USMSP). The meeting witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from the villagers of Parong, who engaged in a constructive dialogue with government officials and project representatives.
During the session, officers from NHPC Limited and the State Government addressed queries raised by the villagers, providing clarifications on the project’s scope, feasibility and potential benefits. The interaction was aimed to build awareness and transparency around the project while ensuring that local voices were heard and concerns were addressed.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC appreciated the villagers for their openness and cooperation. He emphasised that such consultative meetings are crucial for fostering mutual understanding and ensuring that development projects move forward in a participatory manner.
On September 12, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for the implementation of a Special Development Package for the Siang Region. This comprehensive initiative, aligned with the upcoming Upper Siang Multipurpose Storage Project, is set to boost livelihoods, enhance infrastructure and create sustainable development opportunities in the Siang and Upper Siang districts.
The USMSP is envisioned as a transformative initiative for the region, promising benefits in energy generation, infrastructure growth and socio-economic development.
