Bomdila, Nov 18: District Export Promotion Committee (DEPC)-Zone D which covers the four districts of West Kameng, East Kameng, Pakke-Kessang and Tawang today called a meeting here at the DC’s Conference Hall to discuss the ways and means of exploring the export potential of products originating from these districts.
Additional Director General of Foreign Trade Regional Authority, Sasi Kumar while elaborating on the scope of exports said that young entrepreneurs and local producers can tap the opportunity. Advising them to emphasize on products having global market value, he observed the unavailability of a proper database to know the exact potential of the districts and their products. All the General Managers-cum-Deputy Directors of industries were asked to coordinate with the departments, especially horticulture and agriculture which have the potential to capture global markets.
Director, Trade & Commerce-cum-State Nodal Officer Tokong Pertin informed that the Prime Minister is personally monitoring and reviewing the export-related programmes  and called for active participation of the GMs to turn the districts into export hubs. The GMs, however, pointed out the hurdles on the way such as unavailability of proper markets to sell local products like tea, orange, cardamom etc. and involvement of middlemen which are discouraging the producers. Chairing the meeting, DC West Kameng Karma Leki said that products like apple, persimmon, walnut, organic rajma, red rice, sichuan pepper etc. could have been exported from the district had there been proper support to the local producers.
The DCs of the four districts, GMs, ADC headquarters, CO and other officials attended the meeting. DIPRO
