Itanagar, Sep 9: Representatives from banks today dispelled concerns that coins are no longer in use and said that proper awareness is needed to remove the misconception amongst the public.
This was informed when Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Complex Talo Potom convened a meeting with various Banks of Naharlagun Circle and Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries at Mini Secretariat today to discuss various issues regarding non-acceptance and non-circulation of coins, shortage of cash, third party vendors issuing cash outside ATMs, working of ATMs etc.
The representatives from banks said that the banks have been accepting coins but customers in turn do not accept coins when given by banks. They also said that there is a general notion amongst the business community and public that the coins are no longer in use. They said proper awareness needs to be carried out to remove the misconception amongst the public and requested the DC for the same.
Tarh Nachung President ACCI said that necessary action would be taken up by ACCI to create awareness amongst the business community regarding the misconception of coins not being in circulation anymore.
Other issues were also discussed in detail and the DC asked the representatives of banks to ensure availability of cash in the banks and ATMs and also to ensure that the ATMs are functional for the convenience of the public.
Among others EAC Naharlagun Likha Radh attended the meeting. DIPRO
