ITANAGAR, Jun 23: Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Vikram Singh Malik has directed all the coaching institutes and cinema halls running in the Capital Complex to ensure all kinds of safety measures in their establishments, specially fire safety.
“We have issued directive on June 20 last asking all the private coaching institutes and cinema halls to ensure safety measures by obtaining NOC from the office of Superintendent of Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Itanagar,” DC said. He also warned that those failing to comply with the directives would face consequences as per laid down norms.
As per report at least 57 private coaching institutes have applied for NOC from the concerned department. However, the team from Fire and Emergency Services will first inspect each institute and then submit reports to the administration, informed DC. Earlier, on May16 last, the then DC of Capital Complex Himanshu Gupta constituted a committee to conduct verification of all the private schools within the Capital Complex to check whether they are following all norms of RTE Act 2009 and guidelines issued by the state government.
Fire safety has become a major concern for the administration after the Surat coaching institute tragedy on May last when at least 20 students were killed and several others seriously injured. On October 9, 2014, Ministry of Human Resource Development issued guidelines to all state and UTs for ensuring safety and security of school children which specifically mentioned that school buildings should have all-weather structures, be earthquake resistant, safe from floods & other calamities and with proper arrangements of fire fighting. The guidelines further stated that buildings should be kept free from inflammable and toxic materials. Newsdesk
