ROING, Feb 1:
The Idu Mishmi people all over the state are celebrating Reh festival today and this year marks the 50 years of Reh Celebration since its inception in 1968.
Organised by the Golden Jubilee Central Reh Celebration Committee 2018, under the aegis of Idu Mishmi Cultural and Literary Society ( IMCLS), the celebration was attended by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Speaker TN Thongdok and BJP State President Tapir Gao in presence of legislators of the state and from Assam, special invitees and public of the area.
CM Pema Khandu, stressing on the need to preserve our culture and traditions, said that it is the youth who should shoulder the responsibility of maintaining the indigenous traditions and culture. ‘We should not forget our dialects, our rich culture and traditions and should pass it on by teaching our children about it. If we discard our culture, faith and traditions, it will erode our identity,’ he said.
Khandu requested the community members to take full part in the festivals and follow traditional rituals as well. He said rituals and traditions that have been practiced over a period of time could not be disconnected from festivals. He said when it comes to culture, religion is secondary and emphasized that preservation of culture means preservation of identity.
Speaking about development with the slogan 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas', Khandu said that Arunachal faces the challenge of communication, be it road, rail, air and communication technology and only when these are developed and connectivity problem is solved will the state develop and go forward.
Speaker TN Thongdok, addressing the gathering, said that almost all the festivals celebrated by the different tribes of the state have the same basis of celebration, for a good harvest and peace and prosperity of all. Whatever religion we follow, we should not leave our rituals and faith behind, he added. Thongdok advised all to imbibe and infuse new influences but also remember, practise and retain the original dances, dramas, dialects etc. of the community.
Tapir Gao stated that our originality is vanishing with modern influences and said that it is imperative for us to speak in our native dialects and save our culture. He also spoke on the need for one and all to work together as Team Arunachal.
Bishen Mepo, President, GJCRCC 2018 also spoke on the occasion. The Idu Mishmi community awarded its leaders, contributors and achievers on the occasion.
