BANA, Feb 19: Minister, Home, Rural Development etc. Bamang Felix and Minister, WRD, Environment & Forest etc. Mama Natung have appealed to all sections of society including the lawmakers to support the state's farming community in becoming ‘Atma Nirbhar’.
The ministers made the appeal today while inspecting several cluster farms under Bana Circle in East Kameng district. Addressing the farmers, Felix while stating that Covid pandemic has taught the state to strive for agricultural self-sufficiency, assured that the state government is keen to support the farming community. “The cluster farming initiative in Bana will be an example for other farmers of the state to start and all sections of society should help the farming community in the initiative,” Felix said. The state government has issued direction to all the District Administrations to support the farming community in reaching the objective of becoming self-reliant so that dependency on other states for essential food items is reduced, the Home Minister said. “It gives me immense pleasure that the farmers of Bana are doing well and I have assured them to provide a water supply system for ease of irrigation,” he informed.
Acknowledging that the farmers are the backbone of society, Natung informed that to take the cluster farming initiative forward the state government is weighing the option of providing market linkages and storage facilities. For the establishment of a dehydration plant for turmeric, zinger and other crops at Bana I have asked the DC to submit a proposal in this regard, Natung informed, while announcing Rs 50 lakh from his MLALAD quota.
Secretary RD Amarnath Talwade, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Abhishek P, SP Sumit Kumar, Director RD and other officials of the RD department, HoDs, farmers, local leaders and GBs were present on the occasion.  The team also interacted with several farmers growing vegetables, mushrooms and other essential items of daily use.
