ITANAGAR, Oct 9: With the intention of taking the message regarding the need for protection of environment to the hierarchies of the state government, the ‘Fridays for Future’ Arunachal unit today staged its first-ever ‘Climate Strike’ here in front of the State Civil Secretariat.
Holding placards that carried messages and slogans highlighting the need to protect the state’s environment, students, youths and well-wishers joined the event.
Speaking to reporters, State Coordinator, FFF, Arunachal unit Oyin Komboh informed that FFF is a global people's movement for climate justice. “Climate strikes or marches are the peaceful and non-violent ways to let our national and state government know of our views and demands in addressing the climate crisis and ecological breakdowns. As a part of this endeavour, school students skip their Friday classes to participate in demonstrations to place the demand to the political leaders for taking action in preventing climate change,” Komboh informed. “We also organize Facebook Live streaming and webinars involving experts and environmentalists to discuss and throw light on the vital aspects of climate protection. There were also webinars on Italin Hydro Projects, Dibang valley and others,” Komboh informed, while elaborating on FFF’s activities. “Through such a movement, we want to aware the people in the chair to make laws for protecting the environment as global warming is the biggest challenge for the world. As per experts, we have ten years to stop climate change, otherwise, we all have to face the consequences,” the FFF State Coordinator added.
