Aalo, Mar 25: Along with observing the government-announced advisories to combat the contagious coronavirus, civil societies of West Siang district are also keeping faith in the legacy of traditional rituals, which, as popularly believed, ward off all evil.
One such, the traditional mass ritual of Ali-Ternam has been initiated by the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) Aalo which, starting on Wednesday night will continue till the wee hours of March 26 to be marked by ritual chanting by the Priest Mogi Ori. All kinds of movements without exemptions will commence from 5pm on the 26th and continue till 5pm of March 28. Five entry points at Gabu near Logum Jini, Patum near Biru, Piggo near Keak, Hill Geko near Nyorak and Essi Tamen will be sealed completely and people from all walks of life have been appealed to extend cooperation for successful conduct of the ritual.
Meanwhile, a team comprising magistrate, doctors and police had made a detailed screening of the 17 jail inmates for Covid-19 and visited the quarantined places having people who have recently come in from outside the state. Though sufficient days have passed, it was reported that no symptoms or complaints have been found from them. The encouraging trend in the district's rural areas is that people themselves are not allowing even their kith and kin to enter the village unless quarantined here at the district headquarters. DIPRO
