ITANAGAR, Apr 25: The Youth Congress unit of Kra Daadi district has alleged that there were large-scale election malpractices in the recently concluded simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in various polling stations under the district held on April 11.
Addressing a press conference today, DYC-KD President Tarh Jhony alleged that the administration remained a mute spectator even as the opposition party workers incited violence and unleashed terror tactics to keep them out of the electoral race at (18) Raibalo. Stating that majority of voters of Raibalo could not exercise their franchises on free will, he suggested for re-polling in the affected booth so that voters can enjoy their constitutional right.
Justifying his demands, he informed that the election process on April 11 had been completely hijacked by the opposition workers. Also alleging that the SP and DC were working hand-in-glove with the opposition, he criticized the Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Kra Daadi for submitting a false report to State Election Commission which stated that elections under the district had concluded peacefully without any violence and malpractices.
The DYC-KD President also lambasted the SP for his failure to contain the large-scale election violation, playing a biased role and favouring the opposition. He informed that they had already submitted a complaint letter detailing vote-rigging by the supporters of the opposition candidate and their hoodlums to the ECI.
Meanwhile, Biri Taniya , a voter of Rakso accompanying Jhony called for deputing more forces as a second layer to the existing forces stationed in various sensitive polling stations especially in Rakso polling station for the April 27 re-poll.
Recalling the past incidences of violence which occurred at this particular polling station, Taniya expressed fear that if sufficient security is not deputed then there might be repetition of bloodshed this time too. According to him, during the last poll, he was among those purportedly roughed up by opposition JDU workers.
“People of Rakso underwent experiences of unprecedented violence and arson during the elections held on April 11. A murderous attempt was made on me and on other Congress workers,” the reason Taniya cited for demanding additional forces in the Rakso polling station.
Taniya informed that more than 300 inebriated volunteers of JDU with sticks and catapults assembled at the polling station campus at Rakso and manhandled many Congress workers and disrupted the peaceful voting process.
