NAMSAI, Jun 19: In view of the forthcoming visit of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in the district scheduled on June 21, a preparatory meeting was held here today.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Namsai, Dr Tapasya Raghav, with participation by the administrative officers, CDPOs, staff of NCPCR and various NGOs of the district. The NGOs were informed about this visit when the bench would be conducting hearing related to child rights violations, the first of its kind initiative of NCPCR for Northeastern states to be held in Arunachal’s Namsai district. Such sittings of the Commission would be organised in 50 divisions in the country containing at least one district from 115 aspirational districts identified by Niti Aayog.
The two-member bench comprising Yashwant Jain and
Rosy Taba will be conducting the sitting on June 21 and the eleven adjoining districts that will be participating in the process are Namsai, Lohit, Anjaw, Tirap, Changlang, Longding, East Siang, Upper Siang, Siang, Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley.
It is pertinent to mention that NCPCR was constituted in 2007 under CPCR 2005 to look into matters pertaining to deprivation and violation of child rights in the country. The Commission also enjoys the authority to monitor the Right to Education Act, POCSO Act 2012, Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and other related laws. DIPRO
