Itanagar, Jul 1: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today conducted a threadbare discussion with its legal advisors pertaining to the on-going special leave petition filed by them against the granting of citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees & deletion of their names from the electoral rolls of Arunachal Pradesh.
The legal advisor duo of Advocates Nabam Jallow and Marto Kato while briefing the AAPSU leaders about the status of the pending case highlighted that since the last hearing in March 2018, no substantial headway has been made which its partly due to the lackadaisical attitude of the state government who are one of the respondent to the case.
The AAPSU leaders taking cognizance of the sensitive issue assured the legal advisors that every logistical support will be provided from the union’s end and they will apprise the state government that any negligence on their part may give rise to a situation akin to the ex-parte judgement pronounced on September 17, 2015 whereby due to the non-serious attitude of the then state government on the vexed issue of Chakma-Hajong, the apex court gave the directive for conferment of citizenship to the refugees.
The news of acceptance of Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court had been an welcoming one, however, as the matter is still a long way to go for a logical conclusion, AAPSU appeals the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to take up the matter seriously, the press release said. AAPSU Press Release
