KHONSA, Oct 24: Chakat Aboh, the widow of former Minister and NPP-MLA, Late Tirong Aboh won the by-poll to the 56- Khonsa West Assembly Seat as Independent candidates by a margin of 1887 votes.
Chakat defeated her rival Azet Homtok also an Independent candidate. 'While Aboh registered 5705 votes including 91 postal votes, Homtok polled 3818 votes including 33 postal votes,'said an election official.
Aboh secured 59 percent of the 9591 votes polled in 23 Polling Stations on October 21 last.
Chakat Aboh is the wife of former Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) MLA Late Tirong Aboh. The Khonsa West Assembly seat had fallen vacant after the former Minister along with 10 others were assassinated by suspected NSCN militants on May last.
Chakat Aboh was also the consensus candidate in this bye-election. Chief Minister Pema Khandu convened an all-party meeting in September which was attended by the chiefs of political parties including BJP, Congress, National People’s Party (NPP), People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and JD (U)where they resolved to support Chakat as an independent candidate for the bye-election.
Despite the declaration of a consensus candidate, additional three candidates filed their nomination as Independent candidates however two of them withdrew their nomination on the last day.
