Aalo, Oct 29: Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) Nyato Dukam who is currently making a whirlwind tour to districts has asked the work agencies to deposit 1% cess through demand draft directly to the Board for ensuring transparency and proper use of the cess amount meant exclusively for the welfare of the state’s labourers.
This was disclosed by West Siang Deputy Commissioner Moki Loyi during a meeting today here at the Conference Hall of the DC office. The meeting decided that the fund available from the Board will now be utilised in a decentralized manner to be overseen by the respective DCs for speedy implementation. He further disclosed that statutory benefits for labourers have been drastically increased viz. maternity benefit from Rs.1000 to Rs.6000, natural death from Rs.15000 to 2 lakhs, accidental deaths from Rs.50,000 to 4 lakhs along with an increase in medical aids and educational benefits.
The spot assessments made by the APB & OCWWB have revealed that the problems faced of the labourers are alike everywhere in the state and the respective DCs have been asked to locate lands for construction of labour sheds. The Board has also stressed on district-wise registration of labourers through Labour Officers. DC informed that land for labour shed will be identified through the LR Department and registration drive will be taken up soon for ensuring equal benefits for all labourers.
