TEZU, Oct 20: With the target of augmenting the infrastructure of the strategic 25 km road from Chaglagam to Rochom in Anjaw district bordering China, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is putting all efforts despite the construction challenges posed by the tough topography.
The road is a strategic link towards the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the BRO has deployed men and machinery at Chaglagam which is situated at an altitude of 17,000 feet above sea level. Overcoming the critical challenge of building the road on mountainous rocks, the 116 RCC under 48 BRTF Demwe has been clearing all obstacles to accomplish the target. So far, over 7 km has been cleared and as per sources, the remaining 18 km is expected to be covered within the coming winter. Once the road is completed, transportation of supplies, including ration, constructional material and medicines and movement of both Armed Forces and civilians will be much easier.
It is relevant to note that the McMahon line which demarcates the Indo-China border is at a distance of approximately 75 km from Chaglagam. The terrain is thickly vegetated and all movements are undertaken on foot with numerous streams on the way. During monsoon, when the streams are in high spate, temporary bridges are constructed by the Indian Army.
