ITANAGAR, Oct 29: The multi-storeyed building of DBT-APSCST, Centre of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development, at Kimin in Papum Pare district, first of its kind in the state and in North East, is likely to be inaugurated on November 9 by Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh.  A communication in this regard has been received by MP (Lok Sabha) Tapir Gao, informed APSCS&T Bamang Mangha.
This prestigious project of the Ministry of Science & Technology funded by Department of Bio-Technology, GoI, New Delhi, is an integrated centre for performing cutting-edge basic research and its translation into reality. The objective behind setting up of this centre of excellence is to cater the scientific needs of bio-technological intervention and research on developing the bioresources for its conservation and sustainable utilization for improvement of socio-economic status of the tribal people of the state, Mangha said.
The centre will be also useful in the exploration of fruit and organic food potential, and diverse flora of the state. It will serve as nodal point for the collection and dissemination of information relating to bio-technology. The centre will not only benefit Arunachal Pradesh but would also help the scientist for other parts of North East region and the scholars from various universities may also be able to take its advantage, Mangha added.
