NEW DELHI, Sep 25: The Central Government has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh, along with areas under the jurisdiction of Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district bordering Assam.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the areas have been declared “disturbed areas” under Section 3 of the AFSPA, 1958, for a further period of six months with effect from October 1, 2026, unless the notification is withdrawn earlier.
The notification,  states that the decision was taken after a further review of the law-and-order situation in Arunachal Pradesh.
The notification covers the three districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding, as well as areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district, particularly those bordering Assam.
The latest extension follows an earlier notification under which the same areas had been declared disturbed areas with effect from April 1, 2026.
