Namsai, Nov 7: Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Sekhawat today dedicated a drinking water supply project under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to the people of the cluster villages of Pathergaon, Kaisu, Enten and Enthem in Namsai district in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, state’s Ministers, MP, MLAs and high-level officials.
Dedicating the project to the people, the Union Minister informed that being the lone aspirational district in Arunachal Pradesh, Namsai has the constant attention of the Central government and the target of 100% coverage of potable drinking water facilities for all households in the district by next 9 months is being pursued with zeal. Reiterating the aim of providing clean and potable drinking water to every household in the country through JJM by 2024 and in Arunachal Pradesh by 2023, Sekhawat also informed that ‘Har Ghar Nal se Jal’ project under it will be completed within 9 months in all the aspirational districts of the country.
On being informed about the frequent occurrence of floods in Namsai district by MLA Namsai Chau Zingnu Nanchoom, the Union Minister while expressing concern on the amount of annual losses, called for initiation of drastic steps during monsoon. He urged the concerned departments of the state to come up with feasible plans for ground water utilization for irrigation purposes to boost agriculture in Arunachal Pradesh and submit proposals in this regard, assuring that the Central ministry will take up the matter on priority basis.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the state government aims to achieve 100% potable tap water connections to all households by 2023, a year ahead of the national deadline, adding that with support from the Union Ministry and dedicated work from the PHE & WS department, the state is making steady progress in providing clean drinking water to every household.  “With the Integrated Water Supply Project at Jia becoming fully functional, more such schemes incorporating the tourism component will be planned in other parts of Arunachal,” the CM informed. Highlighting the issue of recurring floods during monsoon in floodplains such as Namsai district where soil erosion is a major worry, he requested the Union Minister to provide support through flood protection schemes. The DCM while elaborating on the importance of Stilwell Road for cross-border trade said it will benefit not only the North Eastern Region but also the entire country. The Union Minister assured to take up the matter with the concerned ministry for its early restoration.
The 0.17 MLD drinking water project funded by the state government is being implemented under the Central flagship initiative of Jal Jeevan Mission and will benefit more than 1500 people living in the said villages covering 167 households. It comprises an overhead tank of 66.73 kl capacity and is 12 meters high with a sedimentation tank, sand filter and aerator and has been built with 5% community contribution in form of cash, kind and labour.
MP, Arunachal East Tapir Gao, Education Minister Taba Tedir, Minister for PHE & WS and DoTCL Wangki Lowang, local MLA Jummum Ete Deori, MLA Anjaw Dasanglu Pul, MLA Tezu Karikro Kri, MLA Nampong Laisam Simai, Union Jal Shakti Secretary UP Singh and Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar were also present during the inauguration.
