AALO, Dec 1: A team of officials from the Union Tourism Ministry accompanied by their counterpart from the state undertook a tour to the districts of West Siang, East Siang and Shi-Yomi from November 27-30 last to make an assessment of their tourism potential.
The Central officials comprised Joint Director General Meenakshi Mehta and Assistant Director Generals Bharati Sharma and Rangarajan Parthasarthy. Secretary DOT Sadhana Deori and Director, Aborcountry Travel & Expeditions Oken Tayeng accompanied the team. In West Siang they visited Kabu village and interacted with the villagers about their culture, food habits, village economy, lifestyles and took part in preparation of local beer. While appreciating the simplicity of tribal life and sense of cleanliness, the team took note of the capacity of sustenance of the villagers despite absence of big avenues for employment.
Acknowledging the scenic beauty of the places, the team expressed optimism regarding their tourism potential. DIPRO
