ITANAGAR, Aug 29: In a continuation to its earlier sitting, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today conducted yet another meeting to discuss the decision of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India which has discontinued the practice of allocation of Central Pool Quota MBBS/BDS seats to Arunachal Pradesh for the academic session 2019-20.
In a press release issued today, AAPSU said that this harsh measure has been taken at a time when there are repeated demands for increasing the total seats of TRIHMS from 50 to 100 and although 15% of total seats are provided under the All India Quota in TRIHMS out of the total 50, the remaining seats are not sufficient enough to accommodate the young medical aspirants from the state. Furthermore, students who have secured more than the qualifying marks in NEET exams are not getting quota seats in medical colleges of other states. Taking a serious view of the matter and the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned in resolving the issue, AAPSU while expressing its concern has once more urged the Union Health Ministry to immediately look into the issue.
AAPSU recalled that during inauguration of TRIHMS it was assured that total number of seats will be increased from 50 to 100 but instead of that, central government has discontinued Central Pool MBBS/BDS quota seats, which is a grave injustice to the students of Arunachal Pradesh. We strongly demand enhanced seat allocation as well as continuation of Central Pool MBBS/BDS quota seats for the state for 2019-20 academic session with equal number of MBBS/BDS seats similar to the last academic session of 2018-19, the release said.
In case of non-resolution of the matter, the Union will be compelled to serve quit notice to those students who have got admission in TRIHMS under 15% All India Quota and both the Union and State governments will be solely responsible for any eventualities, the release reiterated. AAPSU PR
